Endless Online 0.4.44 : Dev Post
Content Update: Mounts

Dev Post:

About: Introduction
The rollout of 4.43 went well and became stable after the needed hotfixes. It is good to know the server is still running steady after such a fairly big patch. Meanwhile, development goes on with improvements to the new player experience and other efforts described in this dev post.

Mount System
'' Introducing the Mount System ''

Endless Online was never designed with mounts in mind. The engine and sprites never had any support. Still, the idea of mounts always lingered around among players. This patch (4.44) will introduce the basic mount system. This includes new sprite frames, engine changes, rendering support, map content and design tools, all created to make mounts possible, laying the groundwork for what may come next.

* The illustrated mounts made by Null are added and fully functional in-game but will be implemented gradually, as content and balance considerations allow..
The pixel artist known as Null began by creating the missing seated frames for all current armor and boots, two frames per existing armor set, each posed specifically for riding. With these new frames in place, it became possible to move forward on the technical side: updating the engine, render logic, and placement tools to support mounted movement.

Important: Due to ongoing project planning and development, the initial release of mounts will be a temporary, simplified test version. For now, all players will be able to obtain a temporary horse mount while work continues on the full mounting system, which will include more features to unlock the full potential. The complete version is expected to need a full patch in the future.
Skills: TTC / Time To Cast / Casttime

Ttc (Time-To-Cast)

The skill system now supports casttime. Some skills require the player to stand still and cast them in advance. Casttime works in combination with skill arming, skill targeting, and cooldowns. Together these systems allow for deeper and more flexible gameplay with many possible combinations.

For example, mounting:
The player first drags a mount into the C-slot as usual. This displays the current mount and showcases it to other players as well. Then the Mounting skill must be learned and used to mount or dismount their equiped ride. Unequipping the item from the C-slot will ofcourse also dismount an active ride.

All skill mechanic combined unlock a rich layer of complexity and control within the skill system, enabling each ability to feature a customizable cast time, cooldown, or a combination of both. For instance, a skill might require a 2-second cast time before activation, followed by a 4-second cooldown during which it cannot be reused. The system enforces clear execution rules: initiating another skill will interrupt the current one if it's still casting, and skills on cooldown are entirely unavailable for casting untill ready..

Combinations like this open doors meaningful gameplay, risk management, and more tactical decision-making. Every detail of this behavior can be easilly tuned in PubStudio.

Mount System / Farmlet
The Farmlet map, located west of Aeven, has been reworked to serve as the new home for the Mount Stables, a starting point where players can learn mounting skills and obtain their first mounts. Its central location makes it an ideal hub for this feature, with plenty of room to expand as the mount system evolves. Additionally, a second house has been added to better balance the map layout and may serve future purposes down the line.
Low Level Quest Pack (6)
Building on the direction set by the previous two updates (Patch 42 and 43), this patch continues to introduce more lightweight tasks designed specifically for new players. These additions aim to make Aeven feel more alive, with more npcs offering small but meaningful interactions that enhance the sense of immersion and could serve as approachable npc hooks for future quests as well. The focus here is ofcourse the game's first impressions: giving newcomers more to do, more to notice, and more reason to stay engaged from the very start.

Events (2) NEW
Fixed event: Jar of 1000 Lights

Failed to fully launch in 0.43 but fixed and re-added to this patch. A new magical event has been added to Nostalgia: Once per moon cycle, the map lights up full of fireflies during the Night of a 1000 Lights. Magical fireflies drift through the air, and players are invited to gather and work together during this special social event. All captures contribute to a shared progressbar.

event type:
Collect/common goal

location:
Nostalgia Valley

New event: Rats In Aeven

The poor ratcatcher is running into town shouting for help. He fell asleep on the job and failed to control the rats, which are now spreading everywhere. A job for all players team up and defeat enough rats within 15 minutes to fill the common progress bar. A nice way to earn good exp together and another testrun for the new common progress bar feature added in 0.43.

event type:
Collect/common goal

location:
Aeven (main town)

In the future, it is probably a good idea to expand the script engine with a random launcher alongside the scheduler. Due to the lack of this feature, at this moment, Rats In Aeven is currently scheduled to run once a week at a fixed time.

Paperdoll Upgrade

Visibility Toggles

Two new toggles have been added to the paperdoll hat and boots slots, allowing players to control the visibility of their equipped hat(s) and boot(s).
  • Hat visibility
  • Boots visibility
With these options, players can now choose to hide their headgear entirely, showcasing their character's hair without affecting stats or gear performance. Likewise, the new boots toggle lets players free their feet, removing boots for a more natural look. Whether it's to go barefoot in the forest or just to let those toes breathe, the choice is now yours.

The new toggles are intentionally subtle, occupying a small space within the paperdoll UI to preserve visual clarity. While minimal in design, they remain easily accessible for players seeking more control over their appearance. Those looking for the feature will find it.

New C-Slots

The C-Slot (customize) tab of the paperdoll has also received two new slots.
  • Mount slot
  • Cosboots slot
One slot has been added to accommodate mounts, allowing players to select their current mount using the familiar item-to-slot mechanics.

The second slot (added by popular request) lets players overwrite their boots with other boots purely for visual customization. This makes it easier than ever to mix and match gear for aesthetic purposes without compromising on stats.

Full control: All changes together provide players with a UI that offers complete control over the customization of their characters.

The added flowers crafts at Florabella serve two purposes. With more colorful options the classic 'wedding deco' aka the ancient EO ritual of covering the church floor with excessive stuff and flowers, has been upgraded with more colorful options. Server Detections

Server-side Sweep System Added (Phase 2 of Integrity Framework)

A new background system has been added to the server; an active sweep mechanism designed to profile irregular activity through randomized checks. These server-initiated sweeps run silently, to identify unusual patterns and potential risks. The system is currently in test mode and being monitored for stability and results.

This feature is part of a larger, multi-phase integrity and player support framework currently in development:

Added: Active Detection (now in testing)
Periodic server-driven checks designed to verify activity signals. These run at random intervals, allowing for wide data coverage with as limited disrupted gameplay possible.

  • decoy check (finding autokill)
  • gather check (finding autogather)
  • void quake (playershuffle)
  • captcha wave (mass captcha)

Passive Detection
Foundational systems designed to quietly observe behavior patterns over time. Several passive detectors are already operational, though their effectiveness will increase alongside the growth of gameplay features and mechanics. This system is currently in development but needs more game dev + gameplay + time.
Risk-based Action System
An automated backend response layer that can issue proportionate actions based on the confidence level of detection. Rather than harsh punishments, this system is being designed with a focus on escalation, fairness, and player protection.
Shadow Guide System (Experimental)
A new initiative being explored to involve players more directly in community integrity. This would allow select players to be invited into a parallel 'shadow guild'. giving them access to limited tools like anonymous chat moderation, reporting, own guide chat channel, and internal vote systems. This system is currently in development but needs more time to be developed.

Moving on
The mounting system is now in place, with basic functionality ready for testing. More updates are needed in the future to add features like mount speed adjustments and other enhancements, planned for a later date. Who knows.. Maybe one day you will be able to take another player along for a ride. For now focus will shift to the item system for patch 4.45.
Update patch 4.44 is a work in progress and scheduled to release Friday August 15th
