REcode: MetaPub Files

Efforts been made enhancing the rendering pipelines for npcs and players, transitioning from hardcoded logic to flexible meta files. Each meta file is accompanied by a visual editor, operable directly within the client folder or via PubStudio. These editors facilitate real-time adjustments to effects, offsets, and skill animations, streamlining the design process.

Additionally, emote responsiveness has seen significant improvements, allowing for seamless activation even during movement or jumping. Details on these enhancements are provided in the following section.
Community Event Pack (3) UPDATE
New event 1: March Of The Orcs
A new event is added and scheduled to take place in Hallodale: A large group of orcs is moving from a fort north of Hallodale. The town is often attacked by orcs, but this time the danger is much bigger. The orcs are marching together in a strong group and want to take over the town. All players are encouraged to help defend Hallodale.

event type:
Towerdefence/defeat

location:
Hallodale

New event 2: Gnome Raid in Josand
A new new event is added in Josand Town: An unusually big force of gnomes is raiding the town. They are organized, armed, and determined. Josand's mayor, Shabby 'the big guy', has called for help from all heroes from across the realm. All players are encouraged to help repel the invasion and protect Josand.

event type:
Waves/defeat

location:
Josand Town

New event 3: Jar of 1000 Lights
A new magical event has been added to Nostalgia: Once per moon cycle, the map lights up full of fireflies during the Night of a 1000 Lights. Magical fireflies drift through the air, and players are invited to gather and work together during this special social event. All captures contribute to a shared progressbar.

event type:
Collect/common goal

location:
Nostalgia Valley

What was made - server:
A number of new scripting systems have been introduced to power recent events like the Orc March, Gnome Raid, and the Jar of 1000 Lights. The event engine now allows much greater control over npc behavior, with new hooks like SyncWave() and QueueNpcMove() enabling precise coordination of wave timing, movement, and group actions. Npcs can now dynamically appear and disappear on the map, follow custom paths, and trigger scripted chat interactions.

What was made - client:
On the client side, new overlay support has been added for synced UI elements like shared progress bars. These features help bring more immersion and cooperation to world events, blending server logic with visual feedback. The systems are also built with future expansion in mind, including support for more event types, interactive goals, and reward mechanisms.
Feat: Special (Server Boost) Events UPDATE
What was made:
A new system was developed to launch server-wide special server boost events. These events run for a limited time and could run on rare or special occasions, such as the upcoming server anniversity celebration!

Server Boost Events that can be scheduled
The server supports launching these special events manually, but also connects directly to the server scheduler, which can either select a specific event or randomly shuffle between several options. These special events can be scheduled mixed with regular world scripts such as the Kraken Attack and similar encounters. There is also an option to automatically relaunch a shuffled event every hour. This makes it possible for to create a crazy stack of special events.

current special modes*

Overcharged!
The biggest server event possible, granting double experience on almost everything (except items) and even boosted quest rewards. This is the big one, likely reserved for very special occasions, but it will definitely run during the anniversary weekend around June 30.

Double XP
The classic double experience event, where all monster kill rewards are doubled. A long-time favorite among players, this event turns regular grinding into a highly rewarding rush. Perfect for leveling up alts, pushing main characters further.

Bounty Hunter
For a limited time, all bounty rewards are doubled. Track down specific NPC targets and claim boosted experience, gold, or loot. A perfect event for fast gains and focused hunting together with other players.

Power Rush
Power Rush is a powerful buff that automatically casts on you after every kill. It stacks up to 10 times, increasing your damage by over 200%.

Free Travel
Free Travel makes all boats and airliners free for a limited time, with zero ticket cost for everyone. Enjoy easy and unlimited movement across the world during the event!

Featured Game
A specific minigame is featured during the event, granting triple experience. A social way to earn extra experience while enjoying a change of pace from regular gameplay.
* All special events can be combined, stacked, and run simultaneously, with room for additional modes in the future if needed. Special icons will appear on the screen while events are active, and players can check the status by using the command #events. Tooltips will be added later to the UI to allow deeper inspection of active player effects.

a crazy ammount of stacked server buffs, personal (stacking) powerrush buff on the right side.

Feat: Status Effect Tooltips

What was made:
Showing tooltips on active status effects

What it does:
Tooltips now appear when hovering over status effect icons. They display the effect name, current stack count, and the time remaining until the last stack expires.
REcode: Responsive Emotes
What was made:
As a positive byproduct of the player render pipeline recode, emotes have become significantly more responsive than before:

What it does:
Emote responsiveness has improved, allowing for seamless transitions between moves, chat and emotes. Characters can now perform emotes while walking, jumping. Making things a little more responsive and giving the players a bit more expression.

Upgrade: Guaranteed chest drop
A new system has been implemented to enhance the chest-opening experience. After a set number of failed attempts* without receiving the desired ultra-rare item, the next attempt will guarantee the drop.

The goal is to keep the excitement of finally obtaining a very rare item while reducing the frustration of long unrewarded efforts with no end in sight.. It is important that items like the classic Turtle and Devil suits remain special and rare, but there is also a need for offering players a bit of comfort and a sense of progress. This update is part of the ongoing effort to strike that balance preserving rarity while making sure persistence feels meaningful.

How it works:
  • chance = chestChance + (attempts * addedChance)
  • for example if the chest has 0.01% chance on a devil, and one tried 100x already: 0.01% + (100*0.002%)
  • if the ammount of attempts hit the guaranteed payout there will be 100% chance on the item
* All your attempts tracked since version 4.42 will remain counted.
Minigame: Lasertag UPDATE
What was made:
A futuristic LaserTag minigame has been completed and is set to launch at the Anniversary. This new mode features unlimited-range lasers, zone control gameplay, in a sci-fi arena environment - something new in EO.

The idea:
Due to the high-tech vibe of the area, it will be presented as an isolated minigame. A significant portion of this patch's development time was dedicated to creating the laser minigame and developing various new minigame mechanics, laying the groundwork for even more fun content in the future.

Zone Control:
Players can shoot and eliminate each other during the game, but the game will be about Zone Control; the server announces a zone, and players need to stand inside it to charge their victory. The first team to control the zone, or push the other team out in case of a tie, wins the zone point. The team that captures the most zones wins the match. The order of zones is randomized each game.

Made support:
New charge bars have been added to the client to show progress for this new minigame type. Ofcourse the laser arena is very scifi, to make the transition from 'Aeven Green' to this theme a new lobby layout was created as well.

Feature: Featured Minigame (Tripple Exp Hours)
What was made:
A new system was created to help promote and boost the minigames. The scheduler is upgraded to be able to rotate both scripted events and (randomized) featured games.

What it does:
When a featured game is launched, it becomes tagged to give double or triple experience for one hour. During this time, announcements are made to alert players, and a clear x2 or x3 icon appears on the game. This was designed to raise awareness of the minigames and provide better limited time rewards.

Map: Tile (Spec) Expansion UPDATE
What was made:
The tile (spec) specification system has been reworked to support a wider range of 'block types' and some additional behavioral flags. This update allows for more detailed control over how tiles interact with player and NPC movement, projectiles, and other systems. These changes benefits more versatile map designs.
Lowblock / Block
The tile blocking system has been expanded with a range of new block types, offering more control over in-game interactions. Tiles can now selectively block ground movement, airborne npcs, and projectiles independently. For example; a tile can block players and grounded npcs while still allowing projectiles or even only permit movement for entities flagged as airborne.
Directional Block
Tiles can now block movement directionally, allowing partial access from certain sides. For example, a fence tile can block entry from the front while still letting players walk alongside it. This enhances the maps physical presence and supports more natural, detailed layouts. All while retaining control over whether projectiles can pass through.
Npc Path
Special tiles now force NPCs to follow a set direction. Great for escort quests, towerdefense-alike events, or herding foes. By just placing the tiles in the mapedutor without any scripting needed. Ofcourse a more advanced npc script engine should be developed later for more precise and complex npc behaviors.

Weapon: Pierce UPDATE
What was made:
Ranged weapons now include a 'pierce value' that lets the server limit how many npcs a (lined) shot can hit. The Pub Studio controls the max targets value to balance weapons and prevent one shot from hitting too many enemies. The default value for piercing weapons is none.

Disclaimer: The green laser weapon is for illustration only. No real laser weapons will appear in the main world. Laser guns are available only as special weapons in the Lasertag minigame area only.
Map: Minibosses (L10) UPDATE
What was made:
Two early miniboss encounters have been added next to the popular Mother Piggy miniboss (L10) forming a triangle of three early miniboss encounters aimed at the very new players to stumble into trouble:

  • Mother Piglet : A classic encounter that always felt right. It drops the valuable Piggy, as a nice source of Eons.

  • Rooster : A Rooster miniboss, a tougher chicken type, has been added to the Farmlet west of Aeven. It has a high chance to drop feathers.

  • Big Bat : The Aeven Mines are now home to the Big Bat. It drops Shadow Core pieces to help players gear up early.

Main Quest: Echoes UPDATE
The main quest arc Another Aeven, first introduced in patch 4.14 and later revisited in patch 4.37 is now picking up strong again with the follow-up quest Echoes.
In this new main quest, the player is aided by the A-Kids to make a more stable jump back by sneaking through the portal of the Aeven Group..

But what will the player find?

Map: Swamp Path Remaster

What was made:
The original swamp path to the Deathcave has been creatively restored. While keeping the new Aeven compact and logically laid out. It was possible to place this classic map in approximately the same location by cutting slightly into the mountain and merging it into the existing Green Lake map.

The remastered map features all the familiar landmarks, including the broken train track, towers, and twisted trees. The path evokes a sense of nostalgia, so all old-school players will likely appreciate the return of these classic train tracks leading to the classic Death (Repear) cave, which is also still there.

Objects once considered easter eggs now serve more purposes. Players are encouraged to find and revisit the old spaces.
Bard: Instrument Upgrade UPDATE
What was made:
All instruments are now wave file and engine tuned to sound good together, so they can play in harmony no matter how many ones are used, this improves (player) group music and mixing the various instruments in EO. Like the Guitar, Saxophone or the new Violine.

Also, the play frame and attack frame are now separated, this means instruments can act like weapons when, but played normally (as a bow frame) when used to play music, making the animations look a little more normal.
