Dev Post:
About: Halloween Introduction
|
|
In this development post, we will outline the details of the upcoming game update 4.31. This update will introduce two new events, including a Halloween event that will last for three weeks. Players can expect a mix of new and returning Halloween rewards, along with the introduction of a new lootchest feature. Additionally, the update includes various fixes and improvements, as well as some other developments worth noting. It is time for another dev post, so let us delve into the specifics of what this update brings;
|
'' Aeven Invasion ''
As you enter Aeven, you will notice the town has transformed into a spooky state, draped in shadows, spiders and illuminated by ghostly lights..
Prepare yourselves as a chilling darkness has descended upon Aeven! The Pumpkin Army, led by the dark Pumpkin Lord, has set their sights on Aeven, bringing with them an eerie challenges and lots of rewards.
For the next 3 weeks, Aeven town will be under siege as daily invasions erupt across the land. The Pumpkin Lord and his wicked minions will attack with increasing ferocity, testing players courage like never before.

'' Introducing Lootchest Mechanics ''
The lootchest is a new reward mechanic introduced with the Halloween update, designed to enhance gameplay and reward players with prizes. It will not only enrich the Halloween event but also serve as another foundation for future developments.
The lootchest system allows all players to earn tickets for a common goal, which can be defeating a public boss, dungeon or specifc event. The tickets can be used to open a matching lootchest at the end, ensuring everyone benefits from the experience.
The interface for the lootchest has been designed to evoke a casino-like atmosphere, aiming to create a rewarding feeling. Encouraging players to look forward to their rewards, making the overall experience hopefully enjoyable.
The price for accessing the lootchestes will be determined by the server, based on a preset loot list created in the PubStudio. This approach allows for a controlled reward distribution for many possible scenarios.
The Halloween event is a good opportunity to test and understand this new features. In the future, the loot chest could be a system to reward dungeon runs and possibly a way to reduce some drama out of public bosses (under review)

The Halloween festivities in Aeven have been streamlined to a more interactive design while reviving the old crafts from last year's Halloween 4.08 through the Candy Wizard. Players can earn candy and slime by collecting them in traditional ways, such as defeating candy bandits and gathering slime. They can also earn a higher amount during the Pumpkin Lord Event.
To achieve a hybrid system, new rewards like Little Boo, Pumpkin Scythe and Pumpkin Head will be exclusive to the loot chests, while old crafts remain unlimited and can be crafted through the Candy Wizard. The ingredients for these crafts can now be obtained in two ways.

An issue has been identified where players who disconnected during events, like Swamp Swarm, were not receiving their rewards. To address this problem, a new system has been implemented that records event sessions for each player.
Players who are present at the start of an event will have their participation tracked through specific timeline points in the code. If a player disconnects or dies during the event, whether on the same map or another, they will still be entitled to their reward claim and kill scores. This ensures that experience and item rewards can be collected at the end of the event, providing a fair experience for everyone involved.
This improvement aims to enhance the gaming experience and ensure that efforts during events are recognized, even in the face of unexpected disconnects. Thank you for your continued support as EO becomes a better place.

NEW EVENT Deepsea Platform (Atlantis)
|
Introducing the third scripted map event featuring Kraken, emerging at the Deepsea Platform.
|
|
|
'' Release The Kraken ''
Event: Kraken Attack
EXP : 24000 EXP, deep fish head.
The Kraken lurks beneath the depths of the oceans of Atlantis, but occasionally it emerges at the deep sea platforms, where players can engage in an intense battle with this monster of the sea.
Swiftness is key as the Kraken moves from side to side across both platforms. Players who manage to defeat the Kraken will have a chance to acquire the very rare and amusing fish head.

The Issue
Botting is an issue in all MMORPGs, as no AAA game has fully solved it, even despite their significant resources. Anti-bot measures require considerable development time and effort, making it unrealistic to expect EO to fully defeat it.
Realistic view
Player passion for a full anti-bot game is appreciated, but at this stage it is also essential to also allocate the limited development time effectively. Some bots, for example, those that sell items like weekly fish to players who prefer not to, are somewhat acceptable as they don't harm others. However, bots that monopolize resources, like mining or wood, or continuously farm EXP points can create imbalances.
Actions taken
Significant time and effort have been invested in developing a robust automated bot reporting backend, complete with server detections and appropriate punishments for offenders. Players will now be assessed by the server, which can result in a permanent mark on their accounts for manual or automated review. This system is an experimental way to give the community tools to address the most disruptive bot activities. The system can be expanded and improved in the future.

Since version 3.x, the client supports easy installation and switching of themes. With the latest addition of the Old World theme, the total theme count now reaches six. Players can change their theme through the configuration tool.
