Endless Online 0.4.41 : Dev Post
Content Update: Dragons
|
|
Dev Post:
Update 4.41 will introduce a range of improvements, new content, and additional features. This release focuses on refining existing systems while expanding the game world with new activities. More information will be added to this post in the upcomming days.
|
The decision has been made to completely recode the skill system, removing all old code and public data structures to make room for future enhancements. This will enable features such as spell cooldowns, multiple effects per skill, and the ability to attach buffs and debuffs. As part of this process, the public file has been fully redesigned, including updates to the Pub Studio to support easier editing.
|
In addition, the graphics system has been revamped. The EGF load/cache system has been replaced with a single surface in memory. After careful consideration, it was decided that loading everything into memory would provide smoother operation. To meet the requests of theme creators, this surface has now been moved to EGF2, allowing custom icon designs. Additionally, all icons have been modernized by removing their old "wooden box" backgrounds.
The hotkey drag-and-drop feature has been recoded, and the skill panel has been redesigned to support all actions via left-click, allowing players to select, drag, and execute skills. Right-click remains for direct execution and hotkey use. While the visual changes to the skill panel may be the most noticeable update, this overhaul lays the groundwork for more robust skill system updates in the future.

Area: Dragon path / Dragon Den
|

|
Return of the Dragons
The dragons have returned to EO, bringing back a beloved and difficult part of the old game. The Nostalgia Cave, once the entrance to the original dragon cave, can now be entered again through new remastered maps. The path that leads to the Dragon Den is more scarey than before, with barricades and warning signs placed to keep people away.
In the classic EO, dragon fights were known for being tough and epic. So one of the main goals was to make the dragons feel strong and dangerous again. As a result, new npc behaviour such as npc speed gearbox, sprinting, and area-of-effect attacks was added. Generic features controlled in th Pub Studio, that can also be used for any future npcs (more about this later in the dev post).
Players who follow the Dragon Path will reach a deep, scorched cave where dragons still roam and signs of past battles remain.

|
Schoolgirl Uniforms
The Cyclops Smart School is a strange new area that pokes fun at a part of the old EO in which Cyclops randomly dropped schoolgirl uniforms without much reason. In this world, the Cyclops have stolen school supplies like lockers and blackboards, convinced they are building a real school to show how smart they are. They even wear schoolgirl uniforms as part of the act.
Of course, the truth is that the Cyclops are not pulling off much at all. The school is a mess, their lessons make no sense, and nothing really works the way they think it does. Still, the area gives players fun new lore and a new way to collect both schoolgirl uniforms, which can now also be worn by male characters.
To add more vibes to the area, Cyclops drop their strange homework as viewable items, and the canteen woman Ursulopse always has something weird to say.
|

|
Wacku Expension
Wacku Wilds West is a new area connected to the Wacky Water Grotto, expanding the western side with a fresh training map. The area brings more room for future npcs, monsters, and items, offering a light and fun environment with a purpose. One of the long-term goals for this map is to slowly move some of the jewelry crafting materials away from daily coin shops and into farmable drops from new npcs found here.
Wacku Wilds West is still a calm training spot for now, but it opens the door for more farming-focused content. Over time, players can expect more reasons to visit, as new npcs and item drops make this a valuable spot for crafting and progression.
|

|
Pirate Cove
Pirate Cove is a new map added to Tropica, made as a home for the many pirates found across Endless. With so many pirate-themed npcs already scattered around the world, it made sense to give them their own hub. Pirate Cove brings them together in one place, creating a space for new quests and future stories.
This map is just the beginning of building a bigger role for pirates in the game. Quests here help connect the pirate characters and give them more purpose, turning them into a proper part of the world. Over time, more quests and updates will expand the story of Pirate Cove and its crew. Pirate Cove could become a new layer to Tropica and gives players a reason to return more often.
|
Npc Speed Gearbox
A new npc behaviour has been added with 3 new values to control their operation speed, which allows npcs to dynamically switch between different speeds based on their current state (default/hostile/attacking)
This gives developers more control over npc behaviour taht could create more balanced difficulty. For example, npcs can now move quickly but attack slowly, or move slowly but attack fast. Additionally, a sprint has been added, enabling npcs to sprint toward players when they detect them or when they're angry (with a cooldown in place).
This new feature has been used with the dragons for now, making their movements and attacks feel more varied and intense. However, the system is flexible, and any npc can be modified to use this new behaviour.
New npc speeds:
- Default Speed
- Hostile Speed (overwrite)
- Attack Speed (overwrite)
- Sprint Moves (1-20)
|

|
Fleesome
The 'aura byte' that controls npc behavior, such as attraction and fleeing, has been extended with a new state 'fleesome'. This state allows all npcs (aggressive and passive) to flip between attacking and fleeing, creating enemies that are dangerous and unpredictable at the same time.
It adds a new layer of chaos to fights, where npcs might suddenly retreat, only to charge again a moment later. This behaviour is currently used by the Ashbiters living in the Dragon Path and Dragon Den, making them a serious factor to deal with.
All current aura states:
- Attack ( cows )
- Flee ( chickens )
- Fleesome ( ashbites )
|

|
Attack Pack
A new npc attack pack flag has been added to control how npcs react as a group. When this flag is set, instead of 'none', the npc will alert nearby npcs when attacked. Those npcs will then check their own attack pack flags to decide if they should also aggro the attacker.
Npcs with the any-flag will instantly join the fight, while 'kind' only alerts npcs from the same kind group, and 'same' limits it to exact npc (same ID).
This system allows for more dynamic group behaviour and creates more challenging group encounters. The Cyclopse will be the first npcs to test this new kind of behaviour.
New attack packs:
- None ( default )
- Any
- Kind
- Same

Monthly Leaderboards Introduced
The new monthly progress tracking system is now in place, featuring visible leaderboards that display the top players for both the current and previous month. This approach moves away from static, long-term top 100 lists that offered new players little to no chance of appearing. With progress resetting each month, any player now has the opportunity to make the leaderboard, making competitive play more accessible and engaging for both new and returning players.
Leaderboards added:
- Monthly overall leaderboard
- Monthly ironmode leaderboard
- Monthly undefeated leaderboard

Feature: Recovering Lost Skills
UPDATE
|

|
With the engine now supporting two sources of skills:
- General skills (unlocked through quests or items)
- Class-based skills (tied to class level)
A common issue was players forgetting skills obtained from one-time quests. To address this, all learnable objects (such as the skill books in the Aeven Library) are now quest-aware. They will automatically list any general skills that can be (re)learned, provided the associated quest has already been completed.
|
A Item Group field has been added to all items to link them with the new class system. This allows the engine to reward players for using the right kind of gear without restricting any player to wear the weapon he wants. In the future, skills may require specific weapon to be equiped.
Current groups:
- 0. None
- 1. Fighter
- 2. Ranger
- 3. Both
- 4. Caster
- 5. All

Feature: Out Of Reach Quests
UPDATE
|

|
The quest window now includes additional information for quests that are out of reach due to level or quest status of a player:
- The minimum level of the quest was not reached.
- The needed (pre)quest was not completed
The number of out of reach quests are shown with subtle line, allowing players to see what is ahead and plan their progress accordingly. This also helps new players understand the overall scope of the game, with 166 quests currently loaded by the server, and more to come..

- Tab: Daily quests
- Tab: Weekly quests

|
Good tooling is helping to maintain some control over the overall development and game balance. Pub Studio has been enhanced with various new views and lookups. Developers now have a clearer overview of the various crafts, making it easier to track and compare them. In addition, a CC-score is in development, which calculates the relative cost of a craft based on drop chances and Eon prices. This allows for manual comparisons of crafts, giving developers valuable insights into how different crafts measure up and helping determine how powerful or balanced the crafted items should be.
|

|
New silly speaker box item types have been added for fun, which can be used as light pranks. They could also later be used to distract npcs, adding new ways to interact with certain npcs.
- Noise Box
- Quack Box
- etc..
|
Update 4.41 keeps progress on reworking the skill system steady, while adding a good ammount of new things:
- Skill recode
- New npc behaviours
- 4 new areas
- Dragon stuff!
- Schoolgirl Unform
- new noise box item types
