Endless Online 0.4.36 : Dev Post D-029
Content Update: Aeven Evolved

Dev Post:
Welcome to 2025 and a new dev post.
With the holiday season coming to a close, this update marks the end of the Pengu event. During the event, hundreds of players tested brand new boss abilities and a revamped NPC state system, along with newly implemented AOE circle warning and hit systems. With over 250 players dodging AOE hits, the new engine abilities can be considered stable and successful. (watch video)
Meanwhile, the focus of development has shifted back to the basics, revisiting Aeven (the starting continent) and reviewing the new player experience once again. Old elements are being carefully reintroduced while ensuring the continent as a whole remains balanced, efficient and proportioned. This dev post will go into details how this process unfolds and what comes next.

|
'' Balanced expansion ''
Aeven has been expanded in all directions with new maps and planned areas to keep the entire continent balanced. The east side is reserved for the Birdmans and a long-awaited L30+ human vs. bird battleground, while the north side includes more waterfalls a future L30+ grotto. The west side has been redesigned to include new L30+ catacombs filled with skeletons. These additions ensure that each side of Aeven has comparable content and significant dangers for players to encounter, motivating them to train and become stronger.
Map 14 (Mine Entrance), prime located in the center of Aeven, has been upgraded to serve as a small hub for new players, from where they can explore the entire town and later the entire continent. The map now offers a newbie shop with most low-level weapons and armor, as well as a set of new quests that introduce and guide players to fighting, woodcrafting, mining, and class selection.

With the planned expansions of Aeven Grotto and Birdman Battleground, the Aeven continent will be well-populated.
The Port map should stay directly connected to Aeven for the most quick and easy path to sealiner transportation(s).

About: Map | North Entrance ( Mine Entrance )
|
'' Small Beginner's Hub ''
The Mine Entrance map has been reworked to further support new players arriving in Aeven. Its central location and quick access to Aeven Town made it the prime location to become a small beginner's hub.
To assist newcomers as they begin exploring, a go-to level-level shop has been added, offering the most essential early-game weapon and armors. Additionally, three new npcs's have been added with quests designed for the very beginners.
Existing quests, such as the berry picker quest (introducing gathering mechanics and market interaction) and the fallen warrior's discovery quest (rewarding players with free gear), remain on this map. These updates provide a solid foundation of quests and resources to help new players begin their journey.

About: Map | Catacombes ( Aeven West )
|
|
'' Aeven Catacombs Expansion ''
The western part of Aeven has been expanded to include the Catacombs, home to familiar skeletons. To keep the theme consistent, the beach has been moved next to the farmlet, distancing it from the spooky catacombs. This change places the dangerous catacombs further from the safe central area, creating a more balanced layout for Aeven.
Outside the catacombs, low-level skeletons give new players a taste of the challenges inside. Inside, players will find regular skeletons and ranger skeletons that now work together to attack from a distance. With new graphics and a powerful skeleton boss, this area is designed for level 30+ players to explore and train.
New boss: Bonehart The Wise
New item: Bone Crossbow

About: Map | Aeven Falls Grotto ( Aeven North - Planned )
|
To add more dangerous zones to the northern part of Aeven, the Aeven Falls map has been expanded with a new crossroad and a new waterfall map. This area features a cave that will eventually house dangerous creatures, with Gnolls,Cyclops or other creatures being a potential threat (still to be decided).
A carefully placed passive stray Mamba Snake (L15) has been added to the new crossroad, designed to introduce new players to a more challenging enemy. This encounter aims to spark curiosity and provide an incentive for players to train and grow stronger.
The map expansion not only introduces new challenges but also serves as part of the ongoing effort to enhance the world of Aeven. It offers some scenery and additional spaces for players to hang out, in an effort to create a more immersive and worthwhile world to explore.

About: New Player Quest Pack (4)
|

Three new npc's have been added to the new Aeven Hub, each offering additional quests for new players to engage with. These quests include dummy training, exploring shops in the town, and a quest that requires players to complete various key tasks and levels. The final part of this quest introduces players to the class master at level 10 and then sends them of to Tropica Island to complete the Holy Entrance quest (and therefor making the first Tribal gear set)
|

|
Trainer Steve: Provides a lightweight additional tutorial on the CTRL attack mechanic using training dummies.
|

|
Morty: Offers the "First Steps" quest, guiding players through important early quests, leveling milestones, and a visit to Anundo.
|

|
Max Wannabe: Gives a quest encouraging players to locate the key shops in town.
|

|
Yupi Juniper: Guides players in Anundo to the Class Master, complementing the Level 10 inbox drop 'Your Path Awaits' message.
|

|
'' Anundo Tour ''
The Tour of Anundo quest has been added to guide new players through the town of Anundo. This quest takes players on a tour, highlighting the important Master Kopan's location and giving the players a nice extra reward after running through the fierce Carnivos guarding the city.
The quest is also part of Old Morty's First Steps questline, which continues to guide new players toward the Class Master and other key objectives to help them get started on their journey.

The Catacombs have been completely reworked with a new layout and a set of new and updated graphics, along with additional lighting effects to further improve the quality of the map. The skeletons that inhabit the Catacombs are now equipped with swords and bows, and the ones with bows have new ranged behavior. Additionally, the engine has been upgraded to support attachable npc sounds, such as the typical skeleton bone sounds when they walk or die, making them more interesting to fight.
At the end of the Catacombs, there is a dungeon that has been planned, along with a boss room that has already been added. In this boss room, you will face a new boss, and if you defeat it, you can receive a Bone Core as a drop. You can also use this Bone Core to craft a Bone Crossbow.
New npcs: Ranger (archer)

npc.role
NPCs now have an additional property called npc.role, which allows developers to set their behavior as either melee or ranged. This change enables quick adjustments, such as switching a melee fighter to an archer, directly within the Pub Studio. By making this feature flexible and easy to use, it opens up more possibilities for NPC customization. Whether it is for small encounters or larger battles..
npc.sfx events
The Pub Studio now supports adding sound effects to various NPC actions. Sounds can be attached to events such as walking, attacking, alerting, and dying. This addition aims to provide developers with a simple way to enhance the atmosphere of their game environments. Subtle sound effects can add depth, making scenes more immersive without being overly complex to implement. Whether it is footsteps or combat noises, etc..

Jewel Sets
With the introduction of the 'gear frame' and 'jewel base' items, the upgrade path for jewelry is now better protected against skipping intermediate sets. As the latest set (Shadow set) no longer uses daily coins, we are considering dropping the need for daily coins for the Jungle and Ocean sets. The Shiny and Ancient coins can be reworked to become additional exchange currencies for optional items like instruments or secondary trades like the current coin(s) for basic and soft leather atm.
Slight Gear rebalancing
Since the jewel make up for most stats, and gloves and armors do not, another consideration is to reduce the points per stat (for example, from 4 POW per STR to 3), allowing some more stat points to be allocated to body armor, gloves, etc. With some additional balancing, this would make armors (and gloves) feel a bit more worthwhile.
