Endless Online 0.4.54 : Dev Post
Story & Quality Update

Dev Post:

About: Introduction 4.54
This patch focuses on improving existing maps, expanding the main storyline, and polishing several areas that are important to the new player experience and overall game quality. It includes the original bank storage upgrades and configurable client item stack limits, along with additional main story quests and progression. Several story and starting maps have also received visual and general polish to improve consistency and overall quality.

This is essentially a little extra work added to the bank that was already sub-released, rather than losing another version number.

Main Quest: Not Alone NEW
Previously..
The story of the 'Other Aeven' continues. After encountering the strange Echoes the player brought backj the captured data back to the Inventor. The inventor was able to piece together new information. One of the entities you encountered during the previous visit Echoes mentioned something spreading through the sewers.

What was made:
This patch will introduce 'Not Alone' the next visit in this main quest. Your Data Link has been reconfigured by the Inventor to guide players to the old sewer. Follow the signal deep into the sewers beneath Aeven. From there, the path leads even further..

And then...
The deeper you go, the less reliable the Data Link becomes. Something is interfering.. and whatever is happening in the sewer may have been happening for a long while.. The new main quest 'Not Alone' pushes the main story further then before.
Behind the scenes:
There is quite a bit happening behind the scenes to make this part work. From masking player names with unique code names, to PacketBuilder effects that spawn trails of binary data across the background, map distortions, signal interference and other small details throughout the journey. A lot of these effects may only be visible for a few seconds, but ofcourse take time to create.

Dev pov:
These kinds of quests are quite 'expensive' to develop. For what may seem like a relatively small amount of gameplay. A single player may only experience around 10 minutes of it, but when that is multiplied across (for example) 100 players, it feel those 3 development days are still worth it.

Main Quest Chain: Import Completed -> Getting Started -> Unlocked -> Sample -> Another Aeven -> Echoes -> Not Alone

Main Quest: Bunker Map Upgrades
What was made:
This patch also includes upgrades to several existing maps, with new graphics, improved details and various adjustments to give older areas a more polished look. The new player experience is especially important, and even though some of these areas have already gone through two rounds of improvements, It was still not at the level they needed to be.

Revisiting existing maps can be surprisingly time-consuming. New graphics need to be cut, tweaked and adjusted to fit into the existing environment, while small details, transitions and awkward areas often need additional polishing. It's not always about creating something completely new, sometimes going back and improving what is already there is just as important. Here is a small screenshot collection of what has been done:

Main Quest: Shadow Desert Map Upgrades NEW
What was made:
The entire area around the main story bunkers in the Shadow Desert has also been reworked. The maps have been repixeled and remapped with updated graphics and a lot more improved details. The goal was not to completely change the area, but to make the place a more polished part of the overall main story.
Goals:
The entire area around the main story bunkers in the Shadow Desert has also been reworked. The maps have been repixeled and remapped with updated graphics, more overall detail and a lot more pixels throughout the desert. The sand has been given a warmer and more saturated tone to better connect with the overall colour palette of the game. More attention has also been given to the two main bunkers, with the working Import Tower now showing more of the mass import taking place through various noob-like npcs, while the other bunker has been given more visual details of destruction. The goal was not to completely change the area, but give the two bunkers a stronger presence within the main story.

Engine: Bank And Locker Upgrade MERGED
What was made:
The bank locker has been reworked both visually and functionally. It now supports upgradable slots and capacity, with capacity counting the total amount of items stored rather than being limited to 999 per individual item. This gives players much more flexibility when managing their storage, with both slots and capacity being upgradeable over time.

Gold has also been added to the bank locker for future purposes.
  • Gold and Eon storage
  • Locker capacity upgrade
  • Locker slots upgrade
Engine: Item Limits
What is done:
Item limits have been made fully configurable through server-side configuration files, allowing for max inventory stacks and overall transfer limits. The client now handles these limits more smoothly at runtime. Item amount sliders will automatically adjust to the applicable maximum stack or transfer limit.

Together with the upgraded bank locker capacity, the goal is to make the bank locker the main storage for players, rather than relying on inventory space as the primary way of holding large amounts of items.
UI: Status Icons NEW
What is done:
Status icons in the lower-left corner now provide tooltips with additional information about the current effect or area status. Icons can indicate things such as boss presence, HP drain, ghosting movement, and PK zones, making it easier to understand what is currently affecting the player.

The overweight indicator has also been improved and now displays the current weight and maximum weight for better quality of life.
Quest Engine: Job Boards
What is done:
The dynamic Linked Quest Starting System is now being implemented for the first time. It allows signs, visual documents and items on the ground to link and start quests by reading or clicking them..

In this patch, the three new job boards have been added in Aeven to offer their dedicated job quests: The Buddy Center, Port Master and Franny Fish each offer their job quests through their own board:
  • Making Buddies: in front of buddy center
  • Sealiner Repairs: at the ticket shop, Aeven Port
  • Fish Frenzy: Near the green lake
Support: EConfig
What is done:
EConfig has been restructured and upgraded with several new debug tools to make troubleshooting easier. Players can now provide a little more information when reporting issues, such as map and pub file headers, helping identify file or permission problems.

The debug section also provides insight into the parser, logs, ping/connection status, and more all accessible through EConfig's debug switch.
Tools: EGF Editor
What is done:
The EGF Editor has also continued to evolve into a complete and powerful in-house graphics and animation toolkit. The raw graphics editor now includes a growing collection of practical tools such as pixel pickers, clip measuring, various paint editors with dim, mirror, exposure, hue, brightness, pitch, crop and expand functions, along with other useful utilities for importing and exporting bitmaps and sheets to both files and the clipboard.

Having direct EGF editing options available in the same tool makes the graphics workflow a little more convenient.
About: Final Notes
While this patch is not bringing a huge amount of new gameplay, but it does bring a much more polished main story and overall new player experience. At the same time, the story is slowly comming together. Some of the map work also led to unexpected improvements elsewhere. Like the additional 'scenery npcs' around places like Club VV etc.
About: Various Stuff
  • Fixed cosmetic boots incorrectly affecting stat points when (un)equipped in the paperdoll.
  • Fixed %RKILL_VALNAME% being displayed incorrectly in quest completion progress hints.
  • The item names went from Fighter / Ranger / Caster, Heavy / Light / Magic, and now back to Fighter / Ranger / Caster again.
  • The rare flickering light issue that could occur on some clients due to the light engine has been fixed.
  • Added scenery npcs inside club vv etc.
Update patch 4.54 will be released around 1 September 2026
